I use this page to sell personal stuff that I own (Ham Radio equipment, computers, solar panels, climbing gear, etc.). I've never been fond of the high fees on eBay or how inconvenient it is to sell something on FaceBook Marketplace. Craigslist
works pretty good but can be geographically limiting at times. NOTE: I am quick to remove items from this page once they're sold. So, if you see something listed here that means it's still available! |
Vintage Hand Crank Cancelling Machine For Sale:
This machine has an identification plate that says it was manufactured by Columbia Postal Supply Co of Silver Creek, New York and has a shop number and patent dates of 1913, 1916, and 1917. The machine is in good condition (no rust) but the rubber pulleys are deteriorating due to age. Despite the aging rubber, the belt still provides enough tension that the die and other components all rotate when the hand-crank is turned. There are four cancellation dies with that typical wavy line cancellation mark that seem to fit the machine. However, I doubt they were actually used on this particular machine because the "Type Set" box (Manufacturer Part No: 53500), is dated for the years 1999 and 2000 - much "newer" than I suspect the machine is. Nevertheless, the dies do fit the machine as I pulled one of them off of it...
That box of type set contains removable type for the years 1999, 2000, and the "AM" and "PM" marks along with all 12 months and the numbers 1 through 31 (that leaves 23 blank compartments in the carrying case that have nothing in them. The carrying case also contains a pair of tweezers with the manufacturer's marks of, "Pakistan," "18-485 Aven")
There is one insert for the dies that says, "Sedalia, Colo" which also has removable type for, "DEC 5 1959 - PM" - my guess is that this particular insert may have actually been in use on the machine at one time, back then, but that's just a guess!
There is also a stainless steel auger (picture 13) but I'm not sure if it goes with this machine or not. Nevertheless, it will be included in the sale unless negotiated otherwise.
Finally, I occasionally travel outside of Colorado by car so would be willing to meet with a potential buyer if it's near my line-of-travel. I live in the Denver area and plan on going to Omaha, and then Tennessee from there, in early November of this year. Otherwise, buyer will pay for the shipping of their choice (according to my bathroom scale the machine weighs 47 pounds - this does not include the stainless steel auger, type set, or extra dies and postage due plates...).
